Success based on system

Engineering expertise transforms a start-up into a successful enterprise

Daniel Gollmann’s vision was to create an alternative to expensive and technically unwieldy storage systems for medicaments. Around 90 % of pharmacies keep their medicaments in classical sliding storage cabinets. On average 250 new packages have to be stored daily, carefully sorted by name, active ingredient and shelf life. To do this manually is a full day’s work. Gollman’s automatic facility requires only 15 minutes for the same process. You simply scan the medicament in and place it into a storage compartment, and the order picking system does the rest.

The idea of revolutionising conventional storage systems at pharmacies by means of a unique innovation was developed while its inventor was studying mechatronics at Merseburg University of Applied Sciences. A little later the firm of Gollmann Kommissioniersysteme was founded in Halle (Saale). The selection of the location is based on the vast potential of the central German region, particularly in the engineering sector. The company was launched here with a handful of young developers and engineers. The first prototype of the revolutionary automatic order-picking facility was developed after a short period of time, and only one year later the first model was installed. Today the company has a workforce of around 80 skilled personnel.
